Planting Projects

PEACE POLLINATOR BUTTERFLY GARDEN

The Peace Pollinator Butterfly Garden was made possible by a grant from the Captain Planet Foundation, which supports hands-on environmental projects that inspire and empower children and youth. The Drop-In Learning Center partnered with the Riverside Park Conservancy to create a garden at the Adelaide Street entrance to the park.

RAIN GARDEN

The Riverside Rain Garden was made possible by a grant from the New London Water Authority Foundation. New London Landmarks, in partnership with the Riverside Park Conservancy, applied for the funding in order to reduce run-off from the park into the Thames River, so that the network of historic stone runnels can be exposed. The rain garden was installed in August 2013 by Perennial Harmony Nursery.

RESTORING THE NATIVE ECOSYSTEM

In spring 2017, Riverside Park Conservancy received an Environmental Grant for the purpose of removing invasive species from three targeted areas of the park and replacing them will native shrubs and perennials. Throughout the summer, Japanese knotweed was cut back, while oriental bittersweet, winged euonymus, and ailanthus were also removed. Replanting the areas will be implemented in spring 2018.
